David Byrne invites you to play the building

“Playing The Building” is a 9,000 square-foot, interactive site-specific installation by renowned musician and artist David Byrne that transforms the interior of New York City’s Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan into a massive sound sculpture that visitors can “play”. Built with a retrofitted antique organ whose keys control a series of actuators attached to the building’s structural features such as metal beams, plumbing, electrical conduits, and heating and water pipes, the visitor can literally “play the building” by touching the keyboard. Really nice idea and it’s open to the public until August 10th. Check out the video at the link below for a preview.
