We all have our blind spots, and somehow “the spa lady cheese ball,” and her mysterious origins slipped past me, even though the recipe was well documented by Hungry Happenings way back in 2011.
The truth is: It’s impossible to know the exact moment of the Spa Lady’s origin, but we do know that she symbolizes an important and seemingly undying trend in cheese-balling.
Fortunately, through a fateful concoction of friendship, the internets, and cheese, the spa lady is back (just kidding, she never really left!), thanks to the diligent work of Anna and Gabriella of Lucky Peach, who recently celebrated their mutual love of the spa lady by making their own version and carefully documenting the results.

Basically, the spa lady cheese ball recipe consists of an ingenious assemblage of cheese dip, cheese slices, guacamole, cucumber, and red pepper, cunningly arranged into the unmistakable likeness of a towel turban-clad woman relaxing at a spa.

The secret ingredient to this fascinating feast is really the plastic face mask that’s used as a mold to shape the cheese, but whatever the results of your devourable endeavors, just remember, there’s no wrong way to make a spa lady cheese ball!
