EL Wire Double Rainbow Shutter Shades

Craft & Design

Qiaodan “Jordan” Jin Stone was one of the nicest people I met at World Maker Faire NYC. When I first ran into her, she was riding a crazy tread skateboard in a very cute purple plaid skirt. I noticed her unusual glasses right away and we headed into the dark room at the Hall of Science so that she could demonstrate them properly. These shutter shades don’t just glow- the flashing rainbow colors actually respond to sound. A small microphone on the frames captures audio, and an Arduino in her pocket measures volume peak intensity. A signal is then sent to the electroluminescent wires that triggers the double rainbow, all the way across her eyes.
