Many surfboards are works of art in their own right, but when they’re done being used to shred waves, they can be turned into something even more interesting. Though arguably less functional, these boards should provide a sight for those that are on the shore to take in.
Surfboard Fence
If you find yourself on the road to Hana in Maui, be sure to check out this fence made out of surfboards. Started in 1990, it’s quite beautiful and supposedly uses over 500 boards!
Surfboard Stained Glass
Instructables user “danhitman” decided to turn a shortboard into a different kind of art by embedding stained glass in a pattern inside of it. To make the image, a picture of his local break was projected onto the board and cut out. The results are excellent, and this technique could certainly be used in other applications.
Miniature Shark Bite Board
This little board model might not have ever been capable of carrying a human though waves, but the resulting piece of art certainly looks nice! It’s a nice idea for something to do with any spare plywood that you have around your shop.
Surfboard Shark
Rather than a board bitten by a shark, this board is made up to be an actual shark. Of note is the reuse of several signs, a license plate, and a part off of an air conditioning unit.
Mosaic Glass Surfboard
If you’re a fan of surfing and mosaics, then this video combining the two should be even better! This time-lapse video shows how it’s done for a neat effect.
Tiki Surfboard Mosaic
Here’s another surfboard turned into a mosaic. The process was likely similar to the one seen above, but the Tiki image on it seems really appropriate!
