Il Parco dei Mostri di Bomarzo — “The Park of Monsters” — is a rock sculpture park in central Italy. Commissioned in the 16th century by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini after the death of his beloved wife Giulia, the park was designed by architect Pirro Ligorio and was originally called “Villa of Wonders.” Sculptures depict characters in history and mythology: Pegasus, Hannibal’s elephant, Proteus, Ceres, Aphrodite. If I ever go to Italy, I’d love to visit this place and have a picnic.
