MZ_ToolsForCreativity-Badge.gifYears ago, I published an art and early cyberculture zine, called Going Gaga. I did an issue devoted to doodling. I’m fascinated by doodles, scribbles, “crazy walls” (those string-connected, associative wall collages that Hollywood serial killers and the cops who pursue them all seem to need), and all forms of loose-brained/non-linear thinking.

The very precise Gorey-like art of John Kenn is far from loose-brained, but he uses the slap-dash form of the Post-It Note as the medium for his work. And the child-like monster-under-the-bed imagery is certainly evocative of dream states.

My Modern Met has a short interview with Kenn, A snip:

How do you come up with your stories?
I have no idea… sorry. And I try not to think about it that much, but I use whatever pops into my head and then just throw away what doesn’t work.

What do you hope others will get out of your art?
It warms my heart when I am able to scare people or just give them the sense of having experienced a small adventure from something so simple as a drawing on a Post-It note.
