Multi Touch Light Table: GERGWERK from GERG WERK on Vimeo.
Now, I know there will be some die hard vinyl-philes out there prone to fussing about the lost connection of tactile feedback or the degree of skill required to match turntable beats. But lets face it, all practices evolve, music being no exception, and the Multi-Touch Light Table is such a thoughtfully conceived and artfully crafted piece of UI that even the analog evangelists won’t be able to deny its merits.
Created by Gerg Werk (aka Gregory Kaufman) for his senior project, the Multi-Touch Light Table offers a new way for traveling DJs to play sets without having to haul heavy equipment. The digital set up is housed in a flash drive, and the light table interface provides multi-finger gesture tools that control volume, BPM, EQ, synching, looping, and cross-fading. There is enough room for 4 decks and 2 DJs to play. And best of all, the table is outfitted with audio outputs that can be hooked up to analog equipment for the ultimate vinyl/digital face-off.
