Crowdfunded Photo and Video Gear Give Creators a Lot of Options

Photography & Video

The Kickrig slider beam we reviewed last week highlights a very cool trend among crowdfunding campaigns: to support the work of photographers and videographers with cool and helpful accessories.

The following active campaigns spotlight some very useful resources, and also be sure to check out our Kickstarter curated page.

3-Axis Stabilized Gimbal

photo-main

This 3-Axis Stabilized Gimbal is a hand-held camera gimbal that is stabilized with accelerometer-controlled brushless motors–basically a “steadicam” with a tablet mount. The campaign writeup on Kickstarter shows several photos of the prototype construction process, which I really liked.

Slider Dolly/Camera Jib

Made for smaller (< 7 lbs.) cameras, the Solo Slider Dolly & Camera Jib on Kickstarter combines a slider dolly and a jib, and looks really great at creating smooth action shots with your DSLR or smaller video camera.

Luminator Video Light and Photo Flash Diffuser

Indiegogo campaign Luminator is a 300-lumen photo flash diffuser and video light, letting you shoot with both modes without swapping lights. It’s also very handy, half-an-inch thick and weighing less than a pound.

Padcaster Mini

The Padcaster Mini campaign on Kickstarter showcases an excellent product that not only protects your tablet, but allows you to mount all sorts of attachments to it.

MixerFace Mobile Recording Interface

Indiegogo campaign MixerFace addresses a problem with many smartphones, tablets, and DSLRs: poor-quality mics. The MixerFace does all the audio processing and saves it to the phone, keeping the audio and video together.

Litebrush, a Light-Painting Wand

Litebrush is a light-painting wand, which means that you wave it while taking a picture to create cool visual effects. The basic model gets you a one-color light wand with 30 LEDs of either red, blue, or green. The “Pro” model has 12 RGB LEDs.

Angled toward the beginner market, the Litebrush has little in the way of an interface. The basic wand simply turns on and off, while the Pro version cycles through 20 different preset configurations.

AeriCam Hollywood Camera Stabilizer

The AeriCam Hollywood on Kickstarter is an other steadicam. It can hold a 15-pound camera and offers a number of fun attachments like a cable cam and car mount.

NiceDice Video Equipment Adapter

Equip your DSLR with all manner of lights, mics and other accessories. The NiceDice campaign on Indiegogo offers funders NiceDice modules, which are add-on universal adapters that promise to make the creative process easier and reduce the amount of time you spend hunting for adapters.
