Artist Julie Sarloutte creates incredible embroidered renderings of images that can be hard to look at.

In my work I mix elements of folk and everyday imagery, often violent: disasters, war, urban repression … omnipresent in the media. Reflecting the fascination of the screen, I take the time to embroider what usually happens in a split second.

Not only is her needlework exquisite, the images that she depicts can be difficult to comprehend as well. That’s why it’s so fascinating to see these photos documenting the process she went through to create a work simply titled “On my own.”
