We are excited to announce that MAKE’s Volume 34 is here and on sale now. The new issue is filled with 21 projects and includes a special “Robot Uprising” section filled with half a dozen robot projects and profiles of robot makers. The cover features Eric Stackpole, one-half of the inspiring OpenROV project, a maker-made underwater robot with a great story behind it. There’s also a project to build your very own CoffeeBot, a simple, programmable Arduino robot with a perky personality; a project to turn a tube of Blistex into a small linear actuator, a robot-ready mechanism for creating straight line motion; and much more.
But Volume 34 isn’t just filled with robots. The issue also includes in-depth profiles of the artists behind Oakland’s Lost and Foundry. There’s a behind-the-scenes look at the explosive growth of Maker Faire and a calendar of the many Maker Faires (big and small) to come this year. The issue has a project to get your dryer to tweet you when your clothes are dry. There is also a detailed plan for building your own solar observatory. And there’s a build to make your own MonoBox, a retro cool (and inexpensive) speaker that amplifies the output of your music player with room-filling sound.
To help celebrate the release of Volume 34 and all things robot, MAKE is hosting its first International Robot Meetup Thursday, April 25. We’ll be hosting a meetup at MAKE’s HQ as well as Google+ hangout on air at 6pm PST. Joining us on the hangout will be David and Eric from OpenROV, CoffeeBot creator Judy Aime’ Castro, RobotGarden’s Andra Keay, and MAKE’s Eric Weinhoffer reporting on this past weekend’s RoboGames.
Join us for the meetup, pick up a copy of Volume 34, and join the robot uprising!
MAKE Volume 34: Join the robot uprising! As MAKE's Volume 34 makes clear, there’s never been a better time to delve into robotics, whether you’re a tinkerer or a more serious explorer. With the powerful tools and expertise now available, the next great leap in robot evolution is just as likely to come from your garage as a research lab. The current issue of MAKE will get you started. Explore robot prototyping systems, ride along with the inventors of the OpenROV submersible, and learn how you can 3D-print your own cutting-edge humanoid robot for half the price. Plus, build a coffee-can Arduino robot, a lip balm linear actuator, a smartphone servo controller, and much more
