3D Printed Replacement Feet for IKEA Gilbert Chair

Sacha DeAngeli recently moved into a new home with pine wood floors dating from 1925. He also had an IKEA Gilbert chair that was quite functional besides missing a foot. He tried using stick-on felt pads, but after some use, they simply fell off and left scratches and sticky spots on the floor.

The solution was to design and 3D print new replacement feet. If you’d like to make some of these yourself, you can find the necessary file here, or you can simply buy the replacement. If you do decide to print these yourself, Sacha recommends using black ABS plastic, with 30% infill. Prints should be made with the smaller diameter facing down for best results.

For something a little different, “Upgraded” feet are also available which are slightly larger than the original models. The larger diameter will distribute the force over a larger area and hopefully protect your floors even better than the original!

Alternatively, if this design was scaled up significantly, it might make a decent, if heavy, dog bowl. One would just have to make sure to use the correct type of plastic so as not to contaminate the water!
