Purl’s fabulous autumn crochet patterns put a smile right on my face (I love the turkey, and I really love the pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top!) and get my fingers twitching to make. The pattern works in a simple spiral, so you don’t even have to be expert to bring the best offering at the Thanksgiving table. Purl has a whole host of other great patterns (seasonal and otherwise), so be sure to check out her Etsy shop.

Arwen: How did you get involved with crafting?

Amy: I have been crafting all of my life. As a child, I loved cutting paper. To the torment of my mother, I collected papers, cut them into all sorts of tiny shapes and filled many shoeboxes with my confetti. As I got older, I was more interested in drawing and sewing. But a couple of years ago, my sister-in-law taught me to knit, and I was hooked. I enjoy knitting and crocheting because I understand it. I was never very good at sewing; I relied on patterns, and never felt inspired to create my own designs. However with knitting and crochet, I hardly ever sit down to make something with someone else’s patterns; to me it’s just easier to make it up as I go.

Arwen: How do you feel about Thanksgiving?

Amy: My father is Cherokee and Comanche Indian, so in our house we celebrate Thanksgiving in our own way. Thanksgiving to me is the time to gather with those that you love, and celebrate our love for one another. I have such a diverse family, and this is the time to appreciate our differences and be thankful and celebrate those differences.

Arwen: What inspires you?

Amy: I am inspired by my daughter. She is five and has such a vast imagination and confidence. She draws the most amazing characters that I only wish I could create.

Arwen: Do you have a tip for other crafters?

Amy: One tip I would give to other crafters is do what makes you happy and gives you joy, even if you are the only person in your life that can appreciate it. There is nothing more rewarding then to turn nothing into something and enjoy every step of the way.
