Dale Dougherty (the publisher of CRAFT and MAKE), Sherry Huss (our event coordinator), and I stopped by Fred Flare’s Craft Party on Saturday, where they were having a rare real-world retail moment. Fans were laden down with Blythe doll accessories, saying hi to Amy Sedaris, who was there in person to promote her new book, I Like You. The space was pretty tight, but they did a pretty good job of making a Williamsburg warehouse feel like a good place to shop.
Shoppers concentrate with Chris Uphughes’ hearts smiling in the background.
Amy Sedaris signed books wearing a re-appropriated hardware store tool apron!
We also went to the BUST Craftacular a few blocks down. Held in the Warsaw, a Brooklyn music venue, Debbie Stoller herself (in pink cardigan) greeted fans at the door.
People signed up for the Craftacular raffle as they entered. Who wouldn’t want a hot pink crafting apron?? Clearly a strong feminist vibe infused the crafts here.
And a DJ evoked the Warsaw’s day (or rather night) job by spinning throughout the event. Cocktails were available in the annex next door. I loved seeing handspun yarn right in front of a DJ!
