Will Gorman of Orlando, FL, wrote in to share his nicely executed skill crane that uses NXT and RCX bricks, touch sensors, and servos as well as over 600 Lego elements.

My son was inspired by Toy Story and asked if we could build a Lego Claw.

The skill crane uses the NXT to drive the claw, programmed using LeJOS NXJ. The claw itself is powered by a Lego RCX Robotic kit, programmed in NQC. The model was created using MLCad, a great design tool for Lego building! You can find the model, complete part list, and building instructions here.

The best part of the story is that the builder’s son insisted that the claw have 3 digits instead of 4, making the design that much more challenging.
