As a family gets bigger, many times one of the first questions has to do with what handy, but maybe not entirely necessary room will be sacrificed? If you happen to have an office, and a guest bedroom, there’s always the option of combining the two. Since the guest bedroom is generally not occupied, this Imgur user decided to design a platform allowing the bed to slide under the desk and chair.
The build is well documented, starting with the inspiration for the “opposite of a loft bed,” and a simple Sketchup drawing to make sure everything would fit into place. The “lofted desk” is supported on the back by drilling into the brick wall on the back, so there are fewer supports than might be suspected at first glance. To assure that the design was mechanically sound, an online tool called “Sagulator” was used.
As for the final product, it appears to look quite professional, and should be easy to use when guests arrive. The bed might even be comfortable, as opposed to most “conversion furniture.”
One thing to note is that the chair used doesn’t seem to have wheels. Given the lack of railing, this is certainly important, although I’m not sure I’d trust myself either way!
