Indianapolis’ Club Cyberia’s First Open House
Greeting from Club Cyberia, Indianapolis Indiana’s Makerspace. We moved into a 4,000sf space on the east side in January and been busy trying to get setup. We have been fortunate to get some nice equipment donated or on loan to use. A few things the space has are a lathe, milling machine, CNC mill, couple of drill presses, vinyl cutter and a 3D printer. To celebrate the hard work and time put in we will be having an open house on May 5, 2012 from 5pm-7pm.
Congrats, folks!
Holography Workshop at LA’s Crash Space
3D is all the rage in Hollywood, so now here is your chance to make your own 3D hologram! With new materials, it is easier than ever to make a hologram, and instructor Thomas Edwards will show you how. Participants will make at least one hologram (possibly two if lucky), and will also assemble a hologram display holder complete with AC-powered laser to take home to show off your work.
On Thursday, May 10, starting at 8PM, we’ll quickly review holography theory, then we will get to making holograms! We’ll run two hologram making systems, and each exposure takes about 5 minutes. With these new materials, development occurs during exposure, and requires no wet chemicals.
While some people are making holograms, others will be assembling hologram holders. Everyone will get two attempts to make a hologram to ensure everyone goes home with at least one working one. One attempt will be the red matchbox car (as seen if the GIF animation), and your second attempt can be something you bring from home, but it needs to be small (fit within a 2 inch cube) and preferably reflect red light well (not black, blue, green, but perhaps silver, white, red). The holograms themselves are 2×3 inches.
The class will be held Thursday, May 10th at 8pm. The price is $55 but only 10 participants may attend. Sign up here.
Davis, CA, Hackerspace Forming
Nicholas wrote in with news on a new group forming in Davis:
Some folks are getting together a Davis Hackerspace. There’s a first meeting to figure out who’s interested, what we want out of the group, where it should be, etc. on next Wednesday, May 9, at 7:30pm at Bistro 33.
They also have a Facebook page.
Charlotte Hackerspace Featured in Video
Charlotte filmmaker and hackerspace member Kevin Beaty and his creative partner Soctt Lazes shot this cool video as part of a project to plug the city with 100 short videos.
Hackerspace Charlotte is an open community workshop and technology lab where Charlotte’s tech experts and tech curious come together to share resources and brain power to invent, create and educate. Hackerspace CLT put itself on the global map when it claimed a Guinness World Record for the planet’s largest QR code in early 2012.
