Are You a PHP Developer? Do You Know WordPress In And Out? Want to Work For Make?

If you’re a maker, you come to this site to learn about Make: Projects and get your maker community news. But if you’re also a PHP/WordPress developer, then you now have a chance to participate in the Maker Movement as your day job too by joining the Maker Media engineering team. We need your help to make this website better for yourself and the broader maker community. We currently have an open full-time position for an experienced PHP developer to work on the online systems powering our media websites, Makezine.com and MakerFaire.com. By joining our team, you’ll get a backstage pass — literally! — to the Make: project channel and our Maker Faires.

The bulk of our dev team is in our Berkeley or San Francisco offices; in support of face-to-face collaboration with our events and editorial teams, we look at Bay Area resumes first. But we also believe in distributed communication so we’d consider setting up remote dev environments for someone with a verified track record of successful remote work.

Are you a contractor? Some of our projects could be structured that way too. We’re makers: We’re flexible. At the same time, we want to work quickly so please have hands-on experience with environments comparable to this one, a passion for UX that really reflects user needs, and a big appetite for both front-end and back-end projects. The front-end may look basic to readers but the back-end applications for our editors and event planners push WordPress hard so the job is about a lot more than just setting up themes.

See the official job posting and contact email here. We need to add full-time development muscle to our team. But know that we’re also open to hearing from makers/website developers who can contribute in more ad hoc ways, even if it’s an email with user feedback.

Can you help Maker Media help more makers like yourself by growing and improving this website?

What will the next generation of Make: look like? We’re inviting you to shape the future by investing in Make:. By becoming an investor, you help decide what’s next. The future of Make: is in your hands. Learn More.
