The first races of the Moat Boat Paddle Battle are almost here! If you are headed to Maker Faire Bay Area next weekend, now is the time to enter and have your shot at winning one of the fantastic 3D printers from SeeMeCNC.
During the announcement we offered would-be racers a downloadable file of two example boats that they could use to get started with: the Hamel MonoHull and the Coudersport Catamaran. Now, Ocean State Maker Mill members Kurt Hamel and Spencer Zawasky have shared a few new fun boats for anyone interested in just racing but haven’t been struck with inspiration to design their own boat.
Zawasky created a basic hull design that he intended to be a platform for other modifications. The AEGIS Cruiser (pictured above) and the Cheese Boat (pictured below) are just a few examples of what can be done with this hull.
Hamel took the time to make sure our favorite mascot, Makey (downloadable file) would get his shot at dominating the lanes like a rubber-band-powered Michael Phelps. A stretching of Makey’s arms made sure he had enough room to hold a paddle and definitely increased his comic factor.
If you are working on a boat for the Moat Boat Paddle Battle and want to share some pictures of your hard work, post a link to them in the comments below. See you at Maker Faire Bay Area!
