LEDs are all the rage these days, with a new generation of smart LEDs illuminating our homes and maker projects! The following active Kickstarter campaigns spotlight some very cool LED-related projects. Also be sure to check out our Kickstarter curated page.
Vega Edge
Vega Edge is a stylish clip-on LED module that snaps onto your clothes with four magnets. It opens up to reveal the battery clip and power button, and the circuit board itself tucks into a fold. Vega is Arduino-based and open-source.
Scorpion Light
Scorpion Light aims at the DIY video market — vlogs and indie moviemaking. The lights are high-intensity LEDs on flexible stalks, and they clamp onto a variety of surfaces, allowing you to put a bunch of these lights around a scene. One cool feature allows you to snap gels onto the lights’ barn doors.
Vela Bluetooth Lantern
The Vela Bluetooth-controlled LED lantern, controllable via smartphone app and intended for indoors or outdoors. It boasts a 16-hour battery life at full brightness, or you can run it straight from its charging cradle.
Halo Belt 2.0
Rechargeable LED safety belt worn looped over the shoulder or around the waist, and designed to provide optimal visibility for pedestrians and bicyclists. The designers also opined that kids would rather wear one than use a yellow hi-viz vest, which seems plausible.
Mount Anywhere LED
Mount Anywhere LED is an 11″ aluminum bar with LEDs mounted on it, using the extrusion as a heat sink. Then a plastic diffuser snaps over the aluminum. It’s pretty slick and looks like it it could be very useful in situations where you’re relying on battery power.
