A big weekend of making is on tap for this weekend at Maker Faire Kansas City June 29-30.ย The fair will be held at Kansas Cityโsย Union Stationย and is drawing makers from across the Midwest and beyond.
Ink Magazine published a great preview of the fair along with some excellent portraits of makers who will be showing their stuff this weekend.

โThey say itโs like a county fair and a science fair mixed together,โ said event products Luis Rodriguez inย an interview with Ink.
More than 300 makers will be participating in the event covering a wide spectrum of makingโroboticists, artists, crafters, electronics enthusiasts, DIYers of all kinds, and more.
Makers profiled by Ink include:
- Jordie Smith. Jordie works atย Built-to-Spec, a startup housed insideย Hammerspaceย that makes enclosures forย microcomputers. This year the Maker Faire Kansas City veteran will be showing off a 3D printed animatronic tail he controls with a sensor he wears on his hands.
- Austin Feathers will be showing off his Tesla coil.
- Artist ย Jenna Tomlin will be manning Airship Noir, a steampunk vessel she and her steampunk comrades created.

Maker Faire stalwarts such as learn to solder, the Power Racing Series, and the Eepy Birds’ Coke Zero/Mentos show will be on hand for the two-day event, too. If you’re anywhere near Kansas City you should be there as well.
