The Steel Yard in Providence, RI wrote in to let us know that Summer 2008 course registration is open. They’ve got weekend welding, weekend blacksmithing, bike maintenance, and much more:
Community Courses are open-enrollment courses that provide instruction and training in a range of industrial and fine arts through intensive short-term workshops and multi-session courses. Course offerings include raku firing ceramics, figure in bronze, blueprint reading, blacksmithing, and introduction to welding, among others. These courses, taught by working artists and tradespeople, enable students to develop technical and vocational skills while working creatively. Students may choose to take Community Courses to build their resumes, acquire pre-certification training, explore a new art form, or learn skills that have practical applications in the home or garage. Monitored lab times will be offered outside of class meetings so students can continue to practice and develop what they’ve learned. Our courses are open to everyone 15 and older.
