Austin Event: Earthen Plasters

Design~Build~Live
is one of a healthy number of groups in Austin doing their part to fill us all in on the ‘no-brainers’ of sustainability: measures where you don’t make a sacrifice to green your life but rather end up with a ‘better than polluting’ outcome. To steal a Worldchanging catchphrase, they’re trying to create a “bright green future.”

If you’re in Austin next weekend and tired of the pollution / price / aesthetics of traditional plasters, check out this workshop:

Earthen Plasters for Everyone
Saturday Aug. 23rd, 9am-5pm
Austin, Texas
Come learn about earthen plasters and how they can be used in both natural and conventional buildings, including application to existing drywall walls. These non-toxic finishes nurture both your home and Mother Earth, and they feel great to work with! The morning portion of the workshop will be indepth on materials and techniques, and in the afternoon you’ll get hands-on experience applying plaster to a cob wall as well as creating your own finish plaster sample on drywall.
The workshop instructor, Tempe Sikora, specializes in specialty natural plaster and paint application as well as custom European faux finishing. She works primarily in the Austin area as well as in northern California.
The site of the workshop is a private residence in East Austin.
Fee for the workshop is $75 and includes all necessary materials and tools.
Water and snacks will be provided. Bring your own lunch, or visit one of the nearby taquerias or other options for lunch. Enrollment is limited to ten people – Please register immediately.
