Roses are Red, Violets are Yellow?

There is literally a rainbow of colors in bloom right now. I even have yellow violets! I didn’t plant these native lovelies, they just volunteered. I took a walk through my gardens today, and want you to pretend you came with me for the tour!

This iris is a California native, and grows wild. The intricate pattern on the petals is amazingly complex.

Natives are lovely, but so is this hybrid iris. The color is more intense, but it lacks the native’s interesting details.

This is a wild rose. The entire flower is about as big as my thumbnail. It is also a native to California, and an ancestor to the massive hybrid roses that grow in gardens everywhere. It grows wild on a massive vine with insane amounts of thorns.

This yellow daisy isn’t quite a true daisy. It is a shrub that blooms almost all year long.

Woodland sorrel is a delicate little flower with a clover shaped leaf. This version is a pale, pale pink.

This flower is also sorrel, but has a dark red leaf and teeny tiny yellow blossoms.

The salmon pink of the azalea is almost garish. It’s certainly eye catching!

The blue forget-me-not’s are still blooming, but the older flowers turn pale.

This is vinca. It’s a groundcover that grows like mad. I love the blueish purple flower.
