If you’ve read some of our books, you probably know that many of our authors are big fans of Fritzing. It’s a fantastic tool (and a huge collection of components and boards you can use in your designs) for sketching out your circuits, but it can do much more. You can use Fritzing to prepare schematics and PCBs (in fact, the Fritzing folks have their own PCB fabrication service).
Now Fritzing adds a new capability: a code editor built in to the Fritzing environment. It currently supports Arduino and PICAXE, but more platforms can’t be far behind. It’s not until you open one of the built-in Fritzing Creator Kit examples (pictured above; click File→Open Example→Fritzing Creator Kit to load an example) that you get a real sense of the power of this: now your circuit layout and code can be packaged together in one convenient file.
You can read all about the new version of Fritzing (and see all the other new features this version brings) in It’s Fritzmas! New Fritzing “Code View” release, and a little present.
