After checking out the last installment of our Circuit Skills series, Mark Warwick went to work building his own take on the function generator project using a Pelican case + a custom laser-etched front panel. As you can see, the results are quite awesome! Additional infos after the jump –
I’ve had quite a bit of fun making the function generator over the past week or so and I wanted to share the results with you. I used a SPDT to output either “sync” or regular output, and I added a mute button for fun. I decided to box it in a Pelican case (I’m rather fond of them).
One of the pictures is shot into a glare so that you can see the panel design more easily [above]. I might experiment with a new panel material to make the writing more visible and hide the electronics – also wondering if there’s anything really cool to do with the amplitude modulation input (would a guitar signal do something to this, for instance?). Anyway, I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out for now! Thanks again for your help along the way.
Hmmm … a well-amplified guitar signal could be interesting (datasheet specifies +/-4V for the amp input, +/-3V for sweep input). I’m guessing even a simple line level signal would be worth trying.
