A photo in this article incorrectly shows the mandrel being rounded over on a router sitting upside down. This is dangerous - you cannot rout safely in that manner. You need the support that a router table provides.

I just checked out Soller Composites and they list Min. and Max diameters for each sleve...
The 1.5" Sleeves only reach a max of 1.75" Diameter. So I won't be trying to stretch one to 1.8"... I believe once you put the mandrel inside a 2" Sleeve you'd be able to pull both ends of the Sleeve apart to reduce the diameter. I had the same question... so this is what i've come up with... please feel free to dispute or agree...
Make: uses a 1.5" sleeve for the ipod nano.
both Mini generations have a ~5.08" circumference and the diameter calculates to ~1.6"
so there's a tenth of an inch stretch for the first sheath and then a second is applied later.
For the 5.5g 30GB iPod Video the circumference is ~5.66" and the diameter calculates to ~1.8"
If you used the 1.5" diameter carbon fiber sleeve you'd be stretching it by 3 tenths for the first sheath and you'd still have to get one more sheath on there.
So I would suggest buying the highest density 1.5" tubing you can find since I haven't found 1.75" tubing and 2" tubing would be too loose to use.
