- Just finished my first vibrobot!

I made this cute little vibrobot today, with some spare parts I had lying around.
It turned out pretty cool actually, it hums around like a happy little bug. I gave it a cute nose with a potentiometer, so when you twist the nose you regulate the speed of the motor. I finished with adding more cuteness in the form of magic marker eyes and black spots on the back.
I have to improve it a little by adding a larger lump on the motor, but otherwise I am pretty pleased with it :)
Thanks for the inspiration.

It could easily be turned into this overpriced device.

A coffee can vibrobot would be really cool! If you make one, be sure to take photos and let us know about it.

- My Robot!

This was my first ever make type thing. I'm now completely obsessed and have check out all the electronics books at the library. I made the vibrobot in about an hour, hoping the AA would not blow up while I learned to solder. My daughter, 2.5 years, loves her robot and wants to show every body. Now I want to make a larger version of the vibrobot with a coffee can, I want it to have LED eyes. Any tips? Thanks alot, keep making MAKE!Posted by ukebard on July 16, 2007 at 19:11:03 Pacific Time
- Vibrobot Not Yet Working Out For Me

Hi Mark,
Maybe this is easier than it looks for me. I got all the things I need. I got these cheap little fans that take 2 "AA" batteries. Are you saying that you can wire it so it only uses one battery? I can't figure out how to solder it all together. I got a cheap soldering wand and thin solder, .25 oz. I couldn't follow where the wires go. And the wires happen to be so delicate and easily break off the motor. Oh well. If I can get more directions, maybe I'll try this again. I'm totally new to do this. The cancer warning on the solder bugged me too. I guess I just don't breathe in the fumes. I don't want to be wuss. You also mention something about creating your own toggle but don't go any further. All in all, I guess the directions are assuming some prior knowledge. Maybe consider us dads who have never touched a soldering gun before or even did much with nuts and bolts for that matter. Having said all that, I do want to continue trying! I would love to create robots and more stuff with my daughter.
Thanks,

This was a lot of fun to build and gave me a great excuse to practice my soldering. I was a bit nervous at first using the hot soldering iron with the AA battery but it went OK. Here are some pics of our project as we finished it today, at least. I'm sure by tomorrow we'll think of something fun to do to improve it.

Hi Peter! I love the way you made you vibrobot using alternate materials. It looks great. Thanks so much for sharing your photos with us.
