I really don’t have a personal style but my daughter does so I’d give the book to her and see what she could come up with to help ameliorate my lack of said style.

  2. Peter says:

I’m definitely looking forward to making/crafting attractive nightlife clothing which reacts to surrounding audio and body movements while dancing :-)

Diana Eng’s work and all her videos have been very inspirational for me.

A yoga suit with sensors that feedback on your alignment and positioning. They use a usb plug in to a computer and give you verbal cues, tuck your tail bone, lengthen your neck, bend your knee deeper. Who can help me?

    1. Ralph Zoontjens says:

      hi,

I read your idea for a yoga suit, and this is actually something I’ve been working on. It’s a great idea and I just think the world needs it! So I’d love to help you with this. I graduated from an industrial design school with a jacket that gives feedback on movement and breathing, which involved a lot of building, exploring and researching, so if you want to know more drop me a line at ralphzoontjens@gmail.com.

      Ralph

I would love to make some fun Burning Man outfits using this book – especially the shoes! Right now I just make lots of el-wire skirts, I’d love to take it to the next level.

I am friends with quite a few performers (music / dance ) and have been really into lighting up their lives this year! Here’s a set of goggles made for a DJ.

I’m making a pretty advanced hula hoop right now :)

    I could use the inspiration!

    Thanks,
    Brooke

How I would love to have this book.

Also, I would love to have a vest that on the sleeves visually displays my activity patterns over time. These patterns could be very abstract and ethereal, maybe looking like a colony of bacteria that follows what I do. Say, I have an active day with lots of rushing, and at the end of the day the bacteria chaotically scatter about. Then if I have a calm day, with some reading and some yoga, the bacteria will start to move like ocean waves. I think this could be a great way to express myself to others, giving food for conversation, as well as making myself aware of what I’m doing, and the visual feedback could then motivate me to do something that’ll in the end make me feel better. Ideally I’d use some kind of light emitting fabric, but it could also be strips of small LED’s or EL wire.

Here are some goggles I made for a DJ. I’m a dork. I like making people lighty!

I would use this inspiration to expand my palette.

This book is epic! I loved her on Project Runway

I’ve been toying with the idea of adaptive fashion.
The premise is semi-flexible displays with USB interface to take in either some video player (ipod) or webcams, and display the video – either a live feed or prerecorded.

You could walk around with a “hole” in your chest from the camera mounted on your back, or play youtube videos right on your sleeve! Or just change the fabric to match your outfit, or root for your favourite sports team by uploading a screensaver.

I would love to have this book to share with my 11 year old sister. I just showed her the episode of PBS’s SciGirls that Diana was featured in and she was so excited to see girls her age making their own tech-fashion. She’s been watching me play with soft circuits for the last few years and I have been looking for a good book to give her so she can start making her own projects. This would be a fun summertime read for her and a way for us to find time to make together.

  10. thxlt says:

there are way not enough applicable projects, which could work on the market or even use some other material than standard. i would love to dig into all this && bring fashion tech much more further than it is right now. so although i can not propose the greatest idea of all time at the moment, i would love to explore this book :)

as a roller derby referee, i’d love to be able to make something that’ll help me be better at scorekeeping. perhaps a skirt that lights up with each point earned by a jammer in a jam. i’m sure i’d be relatively easy to create and would be hella fun to watch light up as i skate around the track. it’d help with accurate scorekeeping too! how fun!

  12. Mug-z says:

I’d love to make clothes with built in heating systems. That would make my life happy in the winter.

  13. Kenneth Finnegan says:

I think many of the electronic clothing projects I see are somewhat impractical, so I would go for very minimal accessories. Ear rings that blink very rarely, or building your own watch. Things that you would actually wear every day to express yourself to more people than just the people who look at the pictures of you posted in your blog from your workshop.

I love to wear clothes that fit the environment I’m in. For example, if I’m in the city, I love artsy modern prints. I’m on the beach, I love to wear flowery prints.

It would be cool to set up an undetectable gps system in clothes that could make the clothes “smart” and change prints based on the location an individual is located.

The Hottie Flash shirt senses when your body temperature rises suddenly and uncomfortably to volcanic proportions, and signals this to the world at large via LED and explosive audio. Let’s share the hormonal rollercoaster ride!!

  20. Andrea S says:

This crocheted necktie would have LEDs that ran from the bottom to the top. The hotter it is, the more LEDs are lit up.

  21. dr15 says:

A mood ring with an RGB LED.

  22. gracewong1 says:

hmm, I think I would make a shirt with a built in air conditioner/heater!

  23. Marie says:

I have been learning more about soft circuitry and electronics in order to design jewelery that integrates electrical components such as LEDs. Would be neat to make a headband with blinking LEDs going across…maybe making the lights blink faster or slower based on something external such as amount of surrounding light – adding a photoresistor.

  24. tja33 says:

I would make several LED designs on a T-shirt or sweatshirt, but would add switches to power the different designs on or off. This would add some variety to the design.

  25. Eileen says:

I would fashion a bag that looks good and would ensure I never leave my knitting on Muni again.
