Who would have ever thought that there were so many ways to combine cycling and persistence of vision? Here’s another cool one to add to the list: much like a zoetrope, Tim Wheatley’s Cyclotrope is a bike wheel that gives the illusion of animation when it’s being spun on camera. [via Neatorama]

Very groovy!
Now, can we find a way to do a daylight viewable POV wheel that works for the naked eye? Hmm.
Maybe this guy can help out: http://youtu.be/Uef17zOCDb8 (fake but funny)
I’m thinking solenoids showing and hiding a line of flags of some sort – as opposed to LEDs seen on darkness-only POVs. ??
Beautiful! Favorite part is actually the gears, that appear to be spinning in different directions and speeds.
I didn’t even notice that the first time. It’s a perfect example of the “wagon-wheel effect:” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wagon-wheel_effect
Awesome! What a lot of hard work and patience that must have taken, congrats on a fantastic piece of art!
