Raspberry Pi hackers who are pushing their boards to the limit in terms of I/O will be delighted to learn that the Gertboard is now available for purchase as a kit. The announcement comes after a teaser post earlier today on the Raspberry Pi blog. The board comes with a variety of components such as buttons, LEDs, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, a motor controller and even an ATmega328P microcontroller. While it’s not an official Raspberry Pi Foundation product, they do say that they “endorse it wholeheartedly.” The exclusive distributor, Element-14, is taking preorders now and will start shipping units in mid-September. For those of you who can’t stand the wait, here’s a closer look at the board with the latest revisions:

The problem is, you have to register with Newark to buy it. I’m sick and tired of registering for one-off purchases and simply refuse anymore.
