Friday was setup day for Maker Faire Detroit and the guys from SeeMeCNC went big with The PartDaddy, a 16’2″ tall delta style printer.

When a client expressed a desire to print an entire model rocket in a single print, the guys at SeeMeCNC got the idea for the massive delta. After all, even their large ORION delta printer couldn’t quite pull off a full rocket print. In three furious weeks of design and building the team was able to custom machine the 6.35mm nozzle, the extruder screw, and source the extruded aluminum beams from a local Goshen, IN supplier.

The first raising of the PartDaddy took place in Goshen, IN with just a sliver of clearance from the roof and aid of a forklift.

Fresh of the successful installation off the PartDaddy, the team broke down the printer and loaded it up for Detroit.

Friday’s installation in The Henry Ford Museum provided its own challenges, including no forklift and a large extrusion used for raising the printer getting stuck in the machine. Fortunately a scissor lift was nearby to help crown the printer with it’s nom de guerreThe PartDaddy.
