Christmas has come and gone, and you’ve probably (hopefully) packed up the ornaments and stored them for next year. If, however, you’d like to “celebrate” the really cold weather we’ve been having in much of the United States, you could use these instructions to make icicle ornaments out of a plastic bottle.
As one of the easier and cheaper projects that I’ve featured here, all you’ll need is a plastic soda bottle, a knife or scissors, and a candle. The strips are cut around 1 centimeter wide, then held over a flame to twist them into a nice “icicleish” specimen.
Once everything is twisted, the icicle is then held straight while it cools. Depending on a person’s preference the spike can be cut into something pointy, and the other end rounded off. A hole is then put in the top with a heated nail or needle, and a string is inserted to hang on a tree or other object of choice.
This is definitely an interesting way to reuse something, just don’t burn your hand! One could also experiment with a green bottle (like Sprite generally comes in) for another interesting color.
