There are arguably no more iconic characters in the Horror genre than the Cenobites from the Hellraiser movie series. The evil entities are summoned to this world through a ‘schism’ opened up after solving a puzzle box.

The unlucky puzzle solvers then undergo body mutilations that are designed to provide a ‘pleasurable’ experience. The puzzle box is known as the ‘Lament Configuration’ and can be readily found for sale on the internet, however one horror fan decided to build his own.

Robin used a laser printer to produce the etching stencils, which was critical for the etching process to work.

Artist Robin Nylund created his puzzle box using brass sheeting, which were etched with stencils that seem identical to the original movie props. Once the etching process was complete, he then glued the etched brass sheets to a stained wooden, cleaned the excess runoff with some acetone and then finished it off with a coat of lacquer.

The etched brass sheeting was glued into place and clamped with aluminum-covered plywood to prevent it from sticking.

The end result is pretty impressive and even gives the store-bought cubes a run for their money.
