In an interview with news channel Ninemsn, oldest living Australian Alfred ‘Alfie’ Date talked about knitting at 109!
I like to make it without mistakes and I don’t excuse myself for doing it, (but) I think there is an excuse for a person who’s gone beyond the normal span of life.
Date started knitting about 80 years ago, when he was asked by his sister-in-law to embark on his very first project; a sweater for his young nephew.
More recently Date got involved with knitting sweaters for penguins affected by an oil spill last year. Although the penguin sweaters are no longer needed, Date continues to knit scarves for friends and beanies for babies. He’s certainly a knitspiration to us all!
