Phil over at MAKE shows us these $35 salt and pepper shakers that look like film canisters. Seems to me these would make a great re-craft; all you would need is a very small drill bit, or perhaps just an awl. You could probably go wild with the typography pattern of the holes, too. – Link.

I was always told not to put food-stuffs into film canisters because of the chemicals associated with film and such. Other things like coins, ok, but not food or meds.

those are really neat. i don’t know if making them at home would be so good though, i always heard that film canisters have unsafe chemicals that will leach into edibles.
