FIRST Robotics Season: Part 1 Meet The Team

We are Team 2848, The All Sparks, and over the next few months we will be giving you a peek into our robot build season. We are a high school robotics team from Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas, and we participate in a variety of programs through the FIRST robotics program. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) aims “to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.” FIRST does this by engaging students in exciting robot-based competitions that build science, engineering, and technology skills.

Our team is only 7 years old, but in that time we have grown into a team of 40+ students with 9 mentors, a drastic improvement from our meager beginnings. When we started we had very few resources and a lot to learn, but we have grown so much that in April of 2014 we were one of the winning teams at the FIRST World Championships.

We work out of our own machine shop at our school, and all of the robots we create are designed and manufactured by students with the help of our awesome mentors for guidance. Our goal as a team is to get students excited about math and science, and to encourage them to pursue careers in STEM fields in the future. We want to give students an opportunity for hands-on experience showing what a career as an engineer or project manager may be like, and to begin equipping them with the skills and knowledge that they will need to succeed in these fields.

Keep an eye on our blog over the next few months for more information about our team, and to follow our robotic design process!
