I really dig this thoughtful work by artist Judith Hoffman, called A Huggable Kitchen for Coosje, in which she created a soft sculpture monument to the wife of Claes Oldenburg.
“Huggable Kitchen” was a reaction to the shabby kitchen in my Brooklyn walk-up. At the time, I was studying the work of Claes Oldenburg and felt frustrated by the lack of recognition given to the contributions of his wife and artistic partner, Coosje van Bruggen. I sewed this soft replica of my kitchen as a tribute to her and all the women whose contributions to art and family life have gone uncelebrated.
