By pure coincidence, I ran across this beautiful patchwork U.S. Map on See Kate Sew right after I read Katie Wilson’s post on 50 State Mottos Come to Life.
Kate’s patchwork tutorial is fabulous, covering how to generate the state-shaped patterns on your computer and assemble the whole thing without too much sewing. As she says, “When you’re finished, Colorado will be your new favorite state. Perfectly rectangular.”

Funnily enough, this patchwork reminds me of the Thanksgiving episode of friends where they try to name all of the states without looking at a map. It’s lovely!
