As a recent Belfast School of Art graduate, it is important for textile artist Aisling Smyth to have a good CV in hand as she goes out into the world seeking employment. Luckily, Smyth already happens to have a CV that stands out, so much so that it’s won a national craft award from The Royal Dublin Society. That’s because Smyth’s CV is literally a work of art called The Embellished CV, which is digitally embroidered onto a massive piece of fabric.
In many respects the sampler acted as an early version of a CV. The stitches held within the warp and weft of the fabric proclaimed the maker’s skill. This is my sampler, however it is by no means traditional, or composed with domestic life in mind. It is the sampler of a 2014 Embroidery Graduate who is determined to practice her craft at a professional level.
Ironically, Smyth’s CV is turning out to not be so embellished after all.
