Come See the Elusive Strandbeest at Maker Faire!

Frankly, we’ve been waiting for this moment for years. Ever since we first caught wind of Dutch kinetic artist Theo Jansen’s incredible Strandbeests, we’ve patiently waited for their United States debut. (America has wind too, Theo!)

Well, thanks to our friends at The Exploratorium, our wait is finally … finally over. Yesterday, we enjoyed the singular pleasure of experiencing the Ordis Strandbeest in action at San Francisco’s Crissy Field, right in the (wind) shadow of the majestic Golden Gate Bridge. It was truly incredible to see this masterwork of wind-powered kinetic art in person, and to be able to examine the beautifully-designed mechanics up close. Check out the video:

You can catch the Strandbeests yourself this weekend at Maker Faire Bay Area (you’ll find them at the Exploratorium’s booth in Zone 8), and you can hear from Theo himself as he takes Center Stage at 5pm on Saturday. Don’t miss out!
