One of the events we are looking forward to at World Maker Faire NY this weekend is Diana Eng’s Technology Fashion Show, scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Great Hall. Naturally, Diana is incredibly busy getting ready to dazzle us, but she took a few minutes to share some insight with us.
Can you give us a preview of what you have in store for the Diana Eng Technology Fashion Show?
I am going to show a selection of my past designs (mostly from the Fairytale Fashion Collection) that have been reworked and styled into a cohesive show. This is the first time I have shown in such a large public venue so I am looking forward to this opportunity to share my designs with everyone.

Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get started making things and who are your inspirations?
My grandma taught me how to sew when I was 8. This was the same year that my dad taught me how to program and I made a game called Frogland in Visual Basic. It even had a GUI that I created in Paint. So I guess I started making both tech and fashion-related things from an early age. My fashion designer inspirations are Issey Miyake, Martin Margiela, Mariano Fortuny, and United Nude.

How is Maker Faire being held at the World’s Fair location significant?
The World’s Fair was always a showcase of new innovation. Nylon stockings first debuted at the New York World’s Fair, and were a huge breakthrough innovation in fashion. The lines for stocking were much longer than the lines for iPods and Wiis. Keeping with tradition, I think that the World Maker Faire is a great place for my technology fashion show.
Also, the World’s Fair location is no stranger to fashion shows. My mother was actually a child model in the World’s Fair.
Any more details we need on the show?
The fashion show will be in the Great Hall at 2 p.m. Seats are first come first served, but there is also space for standing. Be sure to get there early to see the show!
Thanks, Diana! All the information you need about World Maker Faire NY, taking place this weekend, September 25 and 26, at the New York Hall of Science, is on the World Maker Faire site.
