If you’d like to make a fashion statement that’s out of this world, then you’d better keep your eye out for the fiber optic formal wear that will be on display at Maker Faire Bay Area this year.
Jenn Mann did a fabulous job following Instructables user Natalina’s Fiber Optic Dress project, but created her own lighting system so that the colors could be reprogrammed to her heart’s desire. She will display the LED-laden wearables that she made with her partner Zach, including some Major Tom-esque space helmets for people to try on for photographs.
In addition to the helmet, Mann will be showing off a dress and jacket illuminated by fiber optics along with a combination of 3D printed parts and LEDs that are operated by microcontrollers.
So, make sure to have yourself memorialized doing your best David Bowie impersonation when you go to this year’s Maker Faire Bay Area!
