Creative Applications posted this thorough guide to getting started with augmented reality in Processing. They use NyARToolkit, which is an open source augmented reality library for Java and other languages. The tutorial starts off with a very basic example of using the toolkit to augment 3D boxes on an image (see above). It then moves into more advanced live video and 3D techniques.
