How-To: Curate and Store a Fabric Stash

Craft & Design

I learned so many great tips from The Art of Choosing series over at In Color Order. Jeni has written posts covering how to sort your fabrics most effectively by colorway, how to fold them for easy storage, and several options for keeping them tidy and easy to use. (There are also posts on how to use this newly-organized stash to build color schemes for quilts.)
My very favorite piece of advice was this:
“[It] can be slightly time consuming, but I have found it’s really helpful to reorganize my stash like this every 6 months or so in order to reevaluate my stash! If it seems too daunting, try to do a color or two a day! I like to do this when I’m feeling uninspired. I find that playing around with my fabric and reorganizing usually helps!”

I love this idea, because it keeps your fabrics clean an when you want a certain color you can just grab that bin. I have all of my fat quarters on DVD shelves, separated by color. I am in the process of swapping my sewing room and craft room and just reorganized my fabric.Years of collecting, I need no more for quite some time now! LOL Time to start using it up. I have a picture of my material on my bog. tfs Tami

Thanks, Tami – would you like to share a link to where you have your photos on your blog? I’m sure our readers would like to see your take on fabric organizing!
