Conceptually very similar to some mechanical braille typewriters
Would seem to me that it would work better at doing indentions instead of piercings if the pins just barely went past the housing when extended, that way you could press the housing flush against a page and “type” while scrolling left and right.
Best Make for the Blind I’ve ever seen was a converted dot matrix printer, a brass head with pins was fitted ontop of the print head and script was used to convert a textfile to print in braille, and backwards.
