We talk to Simon Morris, one of the people behind the Flytย โ a levitating lightbulb which hovers by using electromagnets and is powered by induction. ย The effect, even when you know exactly how the trick is pulled off, is quite magical.
The Flyt is currently funded on Kickstarter, and with over two weeks still left to go on their campaign the team has reachedย overย five times their initial funding goal. As well as the levitating lightbulb we see during the interview the team also has aย ย maker kit, which includes a base and a magnet with 4 ultra bright LEDs powered wirelessly via induction.
In the long term Simon says that the Flyt team plan to continue working on the concept, including releasing an open hardware version of the product.
