Are you like me and have a big spool of DVD-Rs collecting dust on a shelf somewhere that you keep around to occasionally burn a disk for a friend? Chances are, you’ve found yourself hunting around for something to protect the disk because you threw out all your old jewel cases long ago. The next time this happens, try folding a case from a sheet of paper using these handy instructions from the folks at Nerd Paradise. You’ll end up with tidy tabbed case that holds itself together without wasting tape. [via LifeHacker]

Anyone who likes this should also probably check out the Paper CD Case website at

This one will let you specify author, title, track names, and prints fold lines for you. It’s a different design than the one above, but it does result in about a 1/8″ spine on which the artist/album name can appear.
Wait a minute … does paper not scratch the CD!?
I’ve been making/using these for years. I’ve never had a problem with paper scratching the CD surface. I’ve gone so far as to use the square-folded variant as an actual envelope to send a CD-R through postal mail. Never had a problem.
From the pictures I was hoping this was going to be a paper airplane and a joke about “data transfer speeds”
