Spikenzie Labs is a design company of some fabulous electronics kits for people of all ages. I was able to catch up with them at Maker Faire Bay Area this past spring to check out some of the products they had to offer in the Maker Shed.

Being a musician, I was immediately drawn to their drum kit. What’s cool about it is that the user can break out piezoelectric transducers (wafer-thin microphones) to turn virtually any object into a drum kit. They had some drum pads and sticks on hand and I had a whole lot of fun rocking out.

Another kit I tried was their Morse code machine. I was able to tap out my name on just the first try, and just recently I helped a teenage friend put his own morse code kit together. The documentation and instructions for these kits are top-notch, and I recommend them highly.
