How-To: Faux Tin Can Luminaries from Paper

Okay, I have to admit this is pretty darn clever. If you’re not into time consuming tin can punching, you may consider this faux tin craft made from paper and foil.

This tutorial comes from the Silhouette blog, which I love for endless inspiration on ways to use your Silhouette machine. It utilizes the rhinestone design feature in the Studio software program to create the dotted patterns.

If you don’t have a Silhouette, do not fear, you could achieve the same effect with a little more effort using a paper punching tool. You can find these at your local craft store with the eyelet setting kits.

They even added the fake tin can lines with a scoring board– nice touch!

Some colored paper and electronic tea lights are added to create this final look. Because you are making these from scratch, you have full control over the size of the can, which would look great as a collection of different sizes clustered together in a center piece. Also because they are so light, you might consider attaching them to a string of LED lights for a patio lantern type display, for indoor use of course.
