CRAFT: Valentine's Day

I had the pleasure recently of hosting a Handmade Detroit Social Circle, a crafty meetup we hold from time to time. It’s been so cold here in the Mitten that it seemed to be the right time to make people put on their boots and snow pants and have a fun night of crafting. Well that, and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Thanks to the folks over at Martha Stewart, I was able to have our guests try some of her new punches and stickers. Read on for a quick project idea below.

The biggest hit of the night was the Punch-All-Over-the-Page punch. I like to use punches, but was sometimes disappointed by the fact that I’m limited to a small area of paper to use. Not any more – these punches work very well. Tip – use both hands to press down on these punches.
The edge punches were also a favorite. They have endless possibilities, from decorative borders to on-the-spot bookmarks. The stickers added all sorts of glitz to our cards.

How-To: Quick Punched Card
Start with a standard piece of construction paper or cardstock. Using an edge punch of your choice, make an initial punch. On either side of the first punch, line up the design and keep punching – this way you’ll get a seamless line of cut-outs. Do this on all four sides. Fold the piece of paper in half and crease with a bone folder. From there, add any decorations of your choice. My good friend Shelli used more punches and some of the stickers we had to try to make Valentines for her son Oliver and husband Jeff.
